War between Blu-Ray HD-DVD player is nothing new

As the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show hits its stride, perhaps the most noteworthy breakthrough is the combined Blu-Ray / HD-DVD which was just announce by LG Electronics of Korea.

Even this development is drawing fire from technical designers.

In these days of bitter competition for every tier of consumer electronics, such cooperative technology bridges are rare. It hasn't always been so. Some will remember "old fashioned record players" that routinely handled 33 rpm, 45 rpm and even 78 rpm vinyl records.

In those days, one could even identify the culture of the listener by the speed that they chose:

78s were for old fogies :)
45s were for teenagers
33s were for audiophiles

They all lived and worked together for many years. Eventually the 78s phased out of production and than 45s. Classic 33s still have a following with some analog lovers. They can still plug into any sound system and their investment is preserved.

We applaud the introduction of the combined HD disk system and hope the public sees it for the breakthrough that it truly is.

BREAKING NEWS:
